Job Description

AVON CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS AN ANTICIPATED VACANCY for the position of: 
Avon Business Official

This Business Official is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of all financial and operational functions to ensure the effective use of district resources in support of student learning. The Business Official advises the Superintendent and Board of Education on fiscal matters, including but not limited to: long-range financial planning, development of the annual budget, implementation of the annual budget, and compliance with state and federal regulations.


In addition to primary responsibility for all aspects of financial operations, the business official is primarily responsible for Records Management, Residency, Transportation, Nutritional Services, Tax Collection.  Notably, the Business Official shares oversight and operational responsibilities with important aspects of  Facilities Maintenance.  Finally, the position will involve other duties as specified or needed by the District.

Avon Central School District is the center of learning for approximately 930 students from UPK through grade 12. Located in northern Livingston County, the Avon Central School District combines the benefits of a tight-knit rural community with proximity to the technology and cultural opportunities of Rochester. Avon lies in the heart of the Genesee Valley, an area of great natural beauty and historical significance. Job Qualifications

Certification: NYS School Business Official Certification or Civil Service Business Manager

  • Serve as the Civil Service appointment officer.
  • Oversee all applicable operations, including, but not limited to: annual budget preparation, payroll, cash forecasting, borrowing, investing, asset management, bidding, capital expenses, insurance programming, social security records, FMLA, long-range planning, contract negotiation and implementation, annual reserve report and plan, audit committee coordination, grant management, etc.
  • Responsible for preparation of all NYS reports, applications, and submissions.
  • Ability and desire to create and utilize a professional learning network. 
  • Manage other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Approximate Timeline

Finalist Interviews: Anticipated finalist interviews 11/8/25 - 12/1/25.
Appointment: Anticipated appointment by the Board of Education will be 12/15/25.
Start: Anticipated February 2, 2026.
